Still Counts — Step Tracker
Last updated: August 3, 2026
Overview
Still Counts (“the app”) is a step tracking application for Android. Your privacy is the core design principle of this app: the app does not collect, store, or share any personal or sensitive user data.
Data collection
Still Counts does not collect any data. Specifically, the app:
- Does not require an account or sign-in
- Does not request network or internet access
- Does not request location access
- Does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs
- Does not collect, transmit, or share personal or sensitive user data of any kind
Data stored on your device
All data the app creates is stored locally on your device:
- Your step counts and daily history are stored in a local on-device database (Room)
- Your preferences are stored in local app storage
- This data never leaves your device
The app reads your phone’s built-in step sensor (via the
ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION permission) to count steps. This data is
processed entirely on-device.
Data sharing
The app does not share any data with any third parties, because it collects no data.
Permissions
- Physical activity / step sensor (
ACTIVITY_RECOGNITION): used solely to count your steps on-device. - Notifications (
POST_NOTIFICATIONS): used only to optionally show your step count in a notification you can turn off. - Boot (
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED): used to resume step tracking after your phone restarts. - Foreground service (
FOREGROUND_SERVICE,FOREGROUND_SERVICE_HEALTH): used to keep step tracking reliable in the background, as you can configure.
Children’s privacy
The app is not directed at children and is rated for general audiences.
